Loni and I just came back from the Caritas X retreat up in the mountains of Wrightwood. I’m still unwinding from the experience and really haven’t fully comprehended all that happened. But, I supposed you can tell from these blog pages that I am trying to channel the energy into something concrete so that someone out there can receive the Holy Spirit in the same way as I did. I will be sure to write more about the Caritas retreat in the next few days.
As if the weekend wasn’t enough for us, I was totally unprepared for today’s Gospel, Mk 9:14-29, read it here at the USCCB website. Basically, the passage described what happened as Jesus came down the mountain.
As Jesus came down from the mountain with Peter, James, John
and approached the other disciples,
they saw a large crowd around them and scribes arguing…
Apart from the obvious similarity that my name is Peter, the passage went on to describe my constant state of asking God to show himself:
“…But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”
Jesus said to him,
“‘If you can!’ Everything is possible to one who has faith.”
Then the boy’s father cried out, “I do believe, help my unbelief!”
I went into the Caristas retreat with the hope for deeper faith. And today, I came down the mountain with Jesus, with a stronger sense of faith than when I went up the mountain last Thursday afternoon. But here’s the kicker:
When he entered the house, his disciples asked him in private,
“Why could we not drive the spirit out?”
He said to them, “This kind can only come out through prayer.”
Faith is not enough to fight evil. I need to work on my prayer life as well.
Thank you, Jesus, for showing me The Way.
I Believe. Help My Unbelief!
