Only for Today

26 11 2008

The last handouts from the Spiritual Exercises contained a sheet of daily living “guidelines” formulated by Blessed Pope John XXIII.  A quick trip to the Vatican’s website opened my eyes to a wonderful homily given by Cardinal Bertone.  “The Daily Decalogue of Pope John XXIII.”  Rather than reproducing the decalogue “Only For Today” here, I think it’s best for you to click through to the Vatican’s site and read the homily in its entirety.

Our Father in Heaven, you have shown us a great example of a peace loving man in Blessed John XXIII, may we all learn from his teachings, inspired by your Son, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, through the heart of Mary, we pray.

Taco Tuesday

There was the mixed bags of joys and resistance after evening prayer last night. Without going into details of the discussion, it’s safe to say that we’re still a long way off from self-discipline.  Perhaps I am too eager to expect radical transformation from the girls, but it’s necessary for me, I thought, to plant that seed of expectation.  I supposed I was slightly annoyed at the notion that the Spiritual Exercise may not be at the forefront of their daily lives after the community.  Well, annoyance or not, I went into a reactive mode and delivered my bits on how important it is to place God first.  I think the ramblings may have fell on deaf ears.  Regardless, I still have hope that there will be a change of hearts.

Holy Spirit, I beg you through Mary, grant us the Wisdom that we sorely need to keep you in our hearts, the Knowledge that we sorely crave to keep you in our minds, and the Understanding that we sorely miss so that we can Love you and all your children, now and forever, Amen.

What Happened?

22 11 2008

Many happenings, no post to show for it.  Perhaps that’s the indicator:  When a lot of things are going on, don’t expect to see too much updates :-) .  No, that’s not how it should be… The more things that are going on, the more post there should be.

Battle Line

From my perspective, I felt that our community members are making great strides in their prayer life, and that they are eager to share the faith.  However, it is a challenge, as a community, to squeeze God in first at the beginning of the day, not to mention the occasional abridged night prayer times.  Since both Loni and I are inexperienced at imposing disciplinary actions, we basically prayed that our members will recognize the need to put God first.  Granted, the 6 a.m. morning prayer are taking a toll on all of us, but I have faith that our human body will adapt to the conditions given enough time.   I am impressed, to say the least, that the girls are pushing themselves to meet the challenge.  It is still too early, though, to see if it will last.
